Course Summary

This project is a follow up of the remediation efforts that for peptide-like inhibitors that is currently ongoing. Students will explore a series of Thrombin structures bound to various inhibitor molecules.

Students will start by learning the basics of protein and nucleic acid structures. Following this they will learn to use the PDB, its related resources and some visualization tools for viewing molecules from the PDB. Students will then group and classify the various inhibitors bound to thrombin.  They will also create a movie (using selected structures) to show how thrombin moves in response to the various inhibitors that it binds.

Through the semester students will develop some guidelines for classification of inhibitors. They will also outline the process of making short movies using available structures in the PDB so that other users can also easily make movies for education and research.
